For the vast majority of businesses operating in the UAE — from small trading companies in Sharjah to service providers across Dubai — printed invoice books and receipt vouchers remain an essential operational requirement. Even as digital accounting tools become more common, physical invoice books are still required by many clients, mandated in certain regulatory contexts, and preferred by countless businesses for the simplicity and reliability they offer.
In this guide
An invoice book is a pre-printed, bound collection of invoices — typically in sets of 25, 50, or 100 — used to record sales transactions. Each invoice includes pre-printed fields for the transaction date, item description, quantity, unit rate, total amount, and company details.
Invoice books are available as duplicate (2-part) or triplicate (3-part) sets, allowing the business to retain a copy while providing the original to the client.
Almost all invoice books and receipt vouchers in the UAE are printed on NCR paper — No Carbon Required. NCR paper uses a chemical coating to transfer the impression of writing to the sheet below, creating instant copies without carbon paper between sheets.
The colour-coded sheets allow users to identify copies at a glance and ensure the right version reaches the right person every time.
White original + Yellow copy. One for the client, one for the business. The most widely used format across UAE retail and service businesses. Clean, simple, and sufficient for most billing workflows.
White original + Yellow copy + Pink copy. Used when three parties require a record — for example, the client, the business, and an accounts or warehouse department.
Since VAT was introduced in the UAE in January 2018, VAT-registered businesses are legally required to issue tax invoices that meet the FTA's (Federal Tax Authority) specific requirements. Every field below must appear on your invoice:
The words 'Tax Invoice' clearly printed at the top of the document
Your company's full legal name, address, and TRN (Tax Registration Number)
A unique, sequential invoice number and the invoice date
The customer's name and TRN (required for B2B transactions above AED 10,000)
A clear description of the goods or services supplied
The applicable VAT rate (5%) and the VAT amount shown separately
The total amount payable, inclusive of VAT
Important: When ordering custom invoice books in Dubai or Sharjah, provide your printer with all of the above details. A reputable print shop will incorporate these fields into the design to ensure your books are fully FTA-compliant from the first sheet.
These two documents serve different but complementary functions in a business's financial workflow:
Requests payment — issued before or at the point of sale to inform the client of the amount due.
Confirms payment received — issued after payment to acknowledge that the transaction is complete.
Many UAE businesses order both invoice books and receipt vouchers together to cover their complete billing and payment workflow.
Sequential serial numbering on every invoice and receipt is a requirement for FTA compliance and essential for internal accounting. It allows you to track every transaction, identify missing invoices in the sequence, and provides a clear audit trail during financial reviews or tax inspections.
When ordering your invoice books, specify your starting serial number — for example, INV-001 or 1001 — so that all books in your order follow a continuous sequence. If you are ordering multiple books, the printer will number them consecutively across the entire run.
Professional invoice books are more than a legal requirement — they are also a brand touchpoint. Customisation options available from Color Spot Printing in Sharjah and Dubai:

Tailored table structure for your specific business — property management, food distribution, retail, logistics, and more.
Sequential numbering with a prefix of your choice (INV-, REC-, 1001, etc.) continuous across all books in your order.
Glued pad, staple-bound, or spiral-bound. Choose based on how the books will be used in the field or at the counter.
Available in 25, 50, or 100 NCR sets per book. Larger books are ideal for high-volume businesses.
A printed cover with company contact details, terms and conditions, or other information relevant to your clients.
Invoice books are produced using offset printing — the most cost-effective and reliable method for printing on NCR paper at volume. Offset printing delivers sharp, consistent results across every sheet, which is critical when printing small fonts, fine lines, and detailed tables. For businesses ordering 20 books or more, offset printing provides excellent value and consistent quality across the entire run.
